A pair of MLS players hope to use the Gold Cup pause as a springboard above the playoff court on Sunday at the MAPFRE Stadium when Columbus Crew SC entertain Sporting Kansas City at the end of the shortened Week 16 schedule.
Columbus (5-9-2) suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Atlanta United at the Tuesday 16th Round of the US Open. Brandon Vazquez and Miles Robinson gave the visitors a two-goal lead at the opening 15 minutes before David Accam pulled one back five minutes from the first half. Vazquez gives the dagger at the hour mark with the second. Brad Guzan's own goal left Columbus late, but the hosts could not find a counterweight.
Sporting Kansas City (3-5-7) was eliminated from USOC at first asking, falling to Minnesota United FC, 4-1, in the fourth round on June 12. Gerso canceled Angelo Rodriguez's opening opener to level in the 27th minute. But the sluice opened for the Loons after the break, with Ethan Finlay scoring in the 46th minute followed by Darwin Quintero's buffer in the 12-minute range.

Columbus Crew vs. Sporting Kansas City Prediction
Even though both sides have fought together to maintain a consistent form of victory at their respective conferences, the match on Sunday will likely benefit the hosts with the slightest difference.
The home side's last win in the league is against the Los Angeles Galaxy who are currently second in their conference. The visitors, on the other hand, have not won a match this season.
Both teams have managed to find the back of the goal, if not victory, at least once in their last three matches. We can certainly expect the same from them when they face each other for ninety minutes.
