Jamaica vs Honduras match preview

Jamaica experienced life as co-host of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Monday with two matches at their National Stadium in Kingston - and home fans can see their team start with victory.

Caribbean and Costa Rica vacation islands have both been given group stage double headers on Monday and the previous day, while most biennial tournaments take place in the United States.

Group C began with Curacao vs El Salvador and was followed shortly thereafter with the introduction of Jamaica, which has been installed as the fourth favorite together to be better than when runners-up in 2015 and 2017, first to Mexico and then to the USA.

Reggae Boyz, who has made Theodore Whitmore their manager for seven of the last 10 years in two spells, recently enjoyed a 1-0 friendly success that boosted enthusiasm against the United States at the Washington D.C with Shamar Nicholson's goal.

But Honduras have not won one of their last four matches and were allowed to lick their wounds after a 7-0 defeat at Brazil last Sunday which barely served as an ideal preparation to lift confidence towards the tournament.

With one of Honduras's best players, Andy Najar from Anderlecht, having to withdraw from the squad due to injury, everything seems to not work as Central Americans and Jamaicans do to start their campaign with victory.

Jamaica vs. Honduras Head to Head

Honduras have a 10-6 advantage with four draws from the previous 20 matches against Jamaica. Reggae Boyz defeated Honduras 1-0 during the 2011 Gold Cup group stage and claimed a similar victory in a friendly match in 2017.

Jamaica vs Honduras prediction

If luck sided with them, Jamaica could become the defending champion this time. This time, the team will specifically start with the right tone, and considering they are facing the challengers of their toughest group soon in the first game, victory will make them on the right track to be at the top of the group.

They won three of their last five matches and are unbeaten in ten of their last thirteen. On the other hand, Honduras have not won in their last four matches and so in nine of their last ten matches. Also, only the last day of the match, they lost 7-0 to Brazil.

Also, Honduras have not won their last seven matches away from home and can register just one win in their last 14 attempts. As it happened, it was building to be a victory for Jamaica.

Finally, Jamaica won the last time the two met, and it's been six years since they really lost the h2h meeting. Also, the last time the two horns were locked in a Gold Cup match, Jamaica recorded a victory.

Expect Jamaica to have a difficult road, but count on them too to win.

Curacao Form & Team News

Curacao warmed up for the CONCACAF Gold Cup by beating Vietnam 5-4 on penalties to win the Kings Cup. They were held to a 1-1 draw in regulation time with Jurich Carolina's second-half effort canceled by Vietnam.

This will only be the second appearance in the Gold Cup for Remko Bicentini troops who made their debut in 2017. They lost the last three matches and did not want to win on Tuesday with odds of 3.40 while the draw was set at 3.30.

Jafar Arias began in victory over Vietnam and is expected to retain his place in the attack despite still looking for his first international goal. He must join in the attack by Gino Van Kessel who has only one goal in his last 10 matches while Leandro Bacuna will also appear in midfield.

El Salvador Form & Team News

El Salvador were beaten 2-0 by Japan in their last warm-up match before the tournament. They were the second best in Japan in the contest and failed to do one of their two attempts at the target number.

It was the first defeat in six matches for Carlos de Los Cobos's forces who have recently been in good condition. El Salvador has a good record in the Gold Cup after reaching the quarter-finals in three of the last four editions. With good performances and recent records in the competition, they are a good value for winning at odds of 2.15.

The El Slavador game is built on solid defenses after maintaining three clean sheets in their last four matches. Roberto Dominguez and Ivan Mancia often partner at center-back while Nelson Bonilla is expected to lead the front line.

Prediction of Curacao vs El Salvador

Curacao has never been a threat to Salvador. The former has never won a match against this team, and if it wasn't for a single draw, which came two years back in international friendship, would hold a record of losing 100%.

Lasting, Curacao has scored one goal in their history covering the last four years, and except for that single tie, failed to score in all other appearances.

Also, in the last edition of this competition, the two teams competed in the same group, and then Curacao lost all of their group stage matches and came out in the first round itself, while their colleagues advanced to the knockout, but eventually gave up the US champions

In addition, Salvador won five of their last six matches, only lost once against Japan, and maintained seven clean sheets in their last 12 matches. On the other hand, Curacao let the goals in the last three ties run and is the favorite odds to do it again in this tie.

Salvador relied on the top of Tuesday, in their opening Gold Cup match.
